This small stone wayside cross rests on a base composed of an inverted column capital, probably reused from an earlier architectural element. The shaft of the cross may have been shortened, which would explain its small size. The dating of the cross is estimated between the 13th and 15th centuries; the lack of detailed information accounts for this uncertainty. The cross marks the southern entrance to the village, at the junction with the Route des Crêtes, which links La Roche-Guyon to Villers-en-Arthies.
A scene from the short film Jour de fauche, directed in 1993 by Vincent Monet, was shot at this crossroads. The film, entirely set in the Vexin, follows the adventures of two characters in pursuit of a stolen bicycle. Several feature films have also been partially filmed in the commune, including André Hunebelle’s Fantomas in 1964, René Mazor’s Un amour de sorcière in 1997, and Agnès Varda’s Village Visage in 2017. In 1970, Michel Deville filmed L’Ours et la poupée in Chérence, starring Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Pierre Cassel in this romantic comedy. The entire film crew was accommodated in one of the village’s farms.
