Domaine Berson
Appreciated through the ages
A former hunting lodge…
This started out as a hunting lodge in the time of Louis XV. In the nineteenth century the estate was owned by the Berson family before becoming a retirement home run by the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartes at the end of the century. In 2009 the municipality took over the property and turned it into a cultural centre for all ages. The buildings consist of a main block and outbuildings. The house has a basement with exposed stone vaults, a raised ground floor and mansard roofs. The tall windows are arranged either side of the arched glass door topped by a large pediment with a double staircase leading up to it. The facade is decorated with carved mascaron ornaments depicting allegories of seasons.
...And hanging gardens
At the rear, hanging gardens extend over almost 7000 m². An orange grove, orchards and lawns are all laid out in a harmonious fashion. There is a fountain and an old washhouse. The grounds and buildings date back to the seventeenth century. From the upper area there is an exceptional view over the Seine valley. On rue Annonciades, the property is enclosed by a wall with an entrance door set into it.
