Halle de la Mairie
Prior to 1838, the village mayor was housed in the attic of the old seigniorial grain market, still owned by the La Rochefoucauld family

 

 

The Halle de la Mairie - the mayor’s office and covered market - has undergone many changes...

The covered market (halle) was acquired by the local council in exchange for six acres of land and 40 perches of wood.

The extensive specifications from the time indicate that the stone pillars and lower rooms (the guardhouse and cell) were preserved during the demolition and reconstruction. The initial plans included adding a schoolhouse and lodgings for a teacher. The work took many unexpected twists and turns, lasted three years in total and eventually cost the village nearly 20,000 gold francs!

The new mayor’s office was inaugurated on May 8, 1847. The documents from the time, however, only mention a covered market, and even today the villagers are wont to talk about the covered market-cum-mayor’s office.

 

 

...but still bears traces of its former use as a market

The municipal services and archives occupy the upper floor and attic, but the arm of the old grain scales can still be seen on the outside of the main part of the building.

And just imagine the old guardhouse where the current lift is, and marvel at the thickness of the cell door under the stairs!

The interior of the building was entirely renovated in 1984, and the exterior was reinforced and cleaned from top to bottom in 2010.

 

 

Die Rathaushalle
Vor 1838 befand sich das Rathaus auf dem Dachboden der ehemaligen herrschaftlichen Kornhalle, nach wie vor im Besitz der Familie de La Rochefoucauld.

 

 

Ein Gebäude, das viele Veränderungen durchlaufen hat...

Im Tausch gegen 6 Morgen Land und 40 Ruten Wald wurde diese Halle von der Gemeindeverwaltung erworben.

Aus dem sehr detaillierten Pflichtenheft geht hervor, dass die Säulen sowie die unteren Räume (Wachhaus und Zelle) beim damaligen Abriss und Wiederaufbau des Gebäudes erhalten blieben. Das ursprüngliche Projekt sah vor, ein Schulhaus sowie die Unterkunft für den Grundschullehrer hinzuzufügen. Die unvorhersehbaren Gefahren beim Abbruch und Wiederaufbau waren jedoch zahlreich. So sollten die Bauarbeiten drei Jahre lang dauern und die Gemeinde letztlich fast 20 000 Goldfranken kosten!

Am 8. Mai 1847 wurde das neue Rathaus schließlich eingeweiht. In den Dokumenten aus dieser Zeit wird jedoch nur eine Halle erwähnt. Und so sprechen die Einwohner von Guyon auch heute noch meistens von der „Rathaushalle“.

 

 

… aber die Spuren seiner früheren Tätigkeit als Markthalle bewahrt

Im Stockwerk und Dachgeschoss sind zwar die städtische Dienste und das Archiv untergebracht, doch kann man an der Außenseite des Gebäudes noch den Hebebaum der alten Kornwaage sehen.

Stellen Sie sich das Wachhaus auf der Grundfläche des Aufzugs vor und bewundern Sie die Solidität der Zellentür unter der Treppe.

Die Innenräume wurden 1984 komplett renoviert, bevor der Außenbereich im Jahr 2010 konsolidiert und vollständig verputzt wurde.
