The old water trough
A small piece of rural heritage

Located on the edge of the village...

There are many natural and man-made water features in the town: water sources, rivers, ponds and water troughs. They are often accompanied by small, interesting pieces of architectural heritage. The town is crossed by the Guiry stream, north of the golf course, which then flows in into the Aubette de Meulan river in Théméricourt. Rain water supplies this large semi-circular basin at the edge of the village. Its impressive size makes it unusual.

…evidence of the agricultural tradition of the Vexin français

This pond was used as water trough: its long inclined paved slope enabled entire herds of animals to enter the water. The numerous horses, cows and sheep from the surrounding farms could be watered and washed here. This trough was used in the 19th century and up until the middle of the 20th century, when animal farming in the Vexin began to decline. Today, the basin only holds water temporarily. Other watering troughs can be seen in neighbouring towns, such as Omerville and Théméricourt.
